Environmental Coffeehouse Tribute to Richard Heinberg
We have lost one of the great teachers of our time
It is difficult to imagine the climate, energy, overshoot genre without Richard Heinberg. For decades, he was one of the clearest and most thoughtful voices helping us understand the relationship between energy, the economy, and the living planet. The Post Carbon Institute has lost one of their most profound voices, but will undoubtedly go on with the work that Richard was so much a part of.
While so many offered delusions that endless growth on a finite planet could continue forever, Richard gently but firmly reminded us that the laws of physics and ecology cannot be negotiated, and he devoted his life to educating others with humility, kindness, intellectual honesty and love. Many of us found our way to concepts like peak oil, ecological overshoot, and the limits to growth because of his work. His passing leaves an enormous void, but his writings, lectures, unwavering integrity, his ever demonstrating of what humanity could be will continue to guide those who care deeply about humanity's future.
We have lost one of the great teachers of our time, and he will be greatly missed.
RIP Richard
