The US is bombing Iran again, Israel never stopped bombing Lebanon and Gaza. Meanwhile ecosystems are under a huge threat.
This video is from my March show, but it is as pertinent now as it was then, even more so. Lots of information to learn about the ecological aspects of the middle east wars, what is affected and what is being lost.
Bombed oil depots and refineries release massive plumes of toxic smoke into the atmosphere. Burning petroleum infrastructure sends sulfur dioxide, soot, and heavy metals into the air, contaminating water and soil across the region. Oil fires and spills in the Persian Gulf threaten marine ecosystems, fisheries, seabirds, and coastal habitats that communities depend on for survival. War doesn't only destroy cities. It also scars the planet, and the environmental cost of war is often ignored.
We also talk about wildlife that lives in Iran’s fragile desert ecosystems, including endangered species like the Asiatic cheetah, Persian gazelle, and Persian onager. When war ignites fires, contaminates water sources, and disrupts protected reserves, animals become the silent casualties.
There is also the climate dimension. Military operations, burning fuel infrastructure, and rebuilding destroyed cities all add significant greenhouse gas emissions to an already warming planet. War is rarely counted in climate calculations, yet its footprint is enormous.

It is the feeling of powerlessness over all of it that gets to us. We must be strong, even if it makes us feel like crumbling into the fetal position for the rest of our lives.
